With the prolonged dry start to the season, Meat and Livestock Australia have warned that the price of beef and lamb is likely to increase and possibly stay high for a prolonged period.

At this stage it is not looking good. Hopefully the plight of our farmers will hit home to people in the cities when they are paying top dollar for their meat .

With the suppliers expected to use the drought once again for a price increase to consumers, the question here is how much of the expected price increase will flow back to the rural producer.

I'am afraid it will again be the middle man who creates the wealth off of the rural producer and of course the expected back lash from consumers where they will once again revert back to cheaper cuts of meat and other alternatives. Also where the big supermarkets will now look to import cheaper prodcue from overseas suppliers just like the pork industry has been fighting for some time now with canadian pork coming onto the market.
