Wheat Sales:

South Korea purchased approximately 19,000 metric tons of US Wheat. Shipment is slated for Jun-Jul 2005

11.5 pct protein Hard Red Winter 6,000
14.0 pct protein Dark Northern Spring 4,000
14.5 pct protein Dark Northern Spring 2,000
10.5 pct protein Soft White 3,000
9.5 pct protein Soft White 4,000

Interesting to note that the US is starting to claw back market share in Korea after Australia broke into this market in 1985 by delivering 10.5 protein wheat deliveries for the noodle market – and the US is in the process of clawing back some of that market share. Australia's market share on average is around 40% of this market but since they have allocated over $180 million dollars of credit guarantees to private traders they have succeed in gaining ground.

Main Millers in South Korea.
Daehan, Cheiljedang, Dongah and Shinhan flour mills represent about 76 percent of South Korea's total milling capacity.

South Korean Noodle Specifications:
Noodle manufacturers want a protein level of about 10.5 percent, good starch characteristics to promote quick cooking, good texture, low ash content , good colour (creamy yellow), colour stability (little or no brown discolouration) and brightness.

Australian Sales are rather subdued of late...

The USDA reported the sale by private exporters of 110,000 metric tons of
Corn. The destination was not specified.
