More citrus canker has been found in the Emerald area of Central Queensland.

The disease threatens to put an end to citrus growing in the area. Fortunately, there has been no sign of canker in the citrus-growing regions of Mundubbera and Gayndah.

In further developments, every citrus tree in the Emerald region is to be destroyed in a bid to eradicate the disease from Australia.

Commercial plantings and backyard trees will be pulled up and burnt.

Hopefully the drastic measures in Emerald will have positive benefits for the citrus industry in the rest of the country.
