Producing a variety of vegetables by organic cultivation in Tulkarem
Products cultivated organically by the Center of Organic Agriculture Training in the village of Falamiya in the Tulkarem district Palestine has been scoring a remarkable marketing success with an increasing citizens’s demand.
Agronomist Salim Al-Karmi in charge of the Center and crop production at PARC, said that a variety of vegetables have been produced specially cucumber, beans, tomato, pepper, squash which are marketed for distinguished prices. A label was put on each product to distinguish it, and a special pamphlet on organic farming was distributed to consumers and farmers. Karmi noted that organic cultivation is done by using natural substances. No chemicals are used. Al-Karmi noted that the ratio of chemicals are high in the cultivation which uses chemical fertilizers and pesticides specially in green houses. He said that PARC has implemented projects on organic farming in the districts of Bethlehem, Jenin, Nablus, and Hebron with an unexpected success. He added that PARC is planing to expand its activities in this field, and that three new organic farms will be established by the end of the year.
