Hi,
We are moving from England to a 150 acre property in the Birregurra region next year to run beef cattle. Although the long-term rain fall looks similar to what we are used to (>600mm), we have been told that stocking rates and hay yields will be lower (due to the increased evaporation). Could anyone advise on the following;
1. Annual average stocking rate (eg: 4 acres per cow)?
2. Hay yield per acre (eg: 5 round bales per acre)?
3. Price per round bale to have a contractor cut and bale it.
4. Amount of hay fed out per cow per year (ie bales per cow) and when (ie only in winter or in late summer as well?
Any advise would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Andrew
