Formatted for archive, click link to see original version : Fertigation Calculation
Does anyone know how to calculate the dilution rate of a chemical solution in a fertigation tank to produce a specific concentration of that solution from an emitter (drip irrigation system)? e.g. How much chlorine do I put in a 1000L fertigation tank to produce a concentration of 1mg/kg of chlorine at an emitter located 200m from the fertigation tank? Can this be calculated? If so, what information is required to make this calculation?
This link (http://www.growcom.com.au/WfP/SM3_DripLineMaintenance_Chlorination.pdf) might be of some use?
Usually with fertigation you are trying to deliver x amount of a nutrient on a per plant or metre of row basis, and the actual concentration is not of great relevance unless taken into consideration with the injection or irrigation time.
I may not be understanding what you are trying to do either - when you say 1 mg/kg of chlorine, what is the kilogram you are referring to? I would have thought concentration in irrigation water would be expressed as ppm, per cent volume or per litre .
