Formatted for archive, click link to see original version : South Australian egg industry under threat
Interstate producers are currently 'dumping' eggs in South Australia, forcing the price down to less than $1 a dozen at times.
The South Australian Farmers Federation Poultry Committee has initiated a Buy Fresh, Buy Local campaign. As part of the campaign, a petition is available for interested people to sign.
All South Australians should sign the petition, as should anyone that believes local produce industries are important.

In regard to dumping, its just part of normal practice - if growers have a over supply they offer it cheap else where, just like Canada selling pork into OZ, this kind of thing will always happen in one form or another. With SAFF calling for loyalty is one way to be seen to be fighting for egg producers rights, however to truly fight this so called dumping of eggs on the SA market they first have to prove that the eggs are being sold in SA cheaper than they being sold in the state that they are exported from, if they can do that they can then take legal action and claim any losses from the interstate egg boards. That's if SAFF truly represents the SA egg growers and it is a case of dumping? or are they just pandering to producers emotions as usual???.

On another point it is nice to see state government endorsed and grower funded marketing boards again proving there true worth.
Time will tell,
until then the consumer will be the winner........... :thumb

:(I hear that the dumped eggs are not fresh, often some have gone'off'. Also I hear that the cheapies are sent here, but back at 'home' the eggs are still full price. Dirty deeds done dirt cheap? Hmnnnnnnnn........

The eggs are the necessary foods. We have to protect local egg industry.
