We have recently discovered a rather wierd situation lately. I hear from sheep growers that the sheep blowfly is very active at the moment in the area (North East Vic) due to rain and humidity.
We have had the strange situation of flies coming into the office (no screens) and drowning in either the dregs in the coffee plunger, or bottom of a mug.
Have finally tracked a non coffee stained one of these, and they appear to be the sheep blowfly - green lucilia. They are very specific in heading for items with proper ground coffee in them. Definitely not instant or tea....
Anyone else aware/noticed this? Anyone else care to try it? Grounds need to have water in them - and just a regular espresso one we use.
Might be more 'attractive' bait to have around than the usual carcass or high cost baits, and recycling too.
'Hey, can someone put another pot of fly bait on please?'.
Bit of a worry that they are attracted to sheep bum, urine, carrion and coffee.....
