US Beef markets have generally not reacted to foot and mouth scare in New Zealand. Mexico has been the exception with arriving containers from New Zealand being held up until the situation was fully clarified.
U.S. imported manufacturing beef prices firmed for 5th successive week, underpinned by stronger U.S. domestic cow prices and lower prices for fatty feedlot trimmings.
Asian markets for beef are still quiet. Beef stocks in Korea remain at high levels and in Japan demand and prices have eased slightly, as is the normal case after every Golden Week holiday.
Australian Cattle (National average price)
DOMESTIC TRADE STEER 353.85 DOWN 5.77
KOREAN STEER 338.46 UP 11.54
JAPANESE OX 330.77 UP 1.92
US MANUFACTURED COW 246.15 UP 3.85
(prices in cents per kilo cwt)
